I specialize in therapy for individuals and families.
I work with individuals who have experienced trauma in their childhood, such as verbal, sexual, or physical abuse. Also, if you've struggled with addiction due to trauma, I work with individuals who are working on recovery from alcohol and other drugs.
Many times our past holds us back from achieving our full potential.
I also provide mom support therapy for women who are currently pregnant and postpartum.
Prior to processing trauma, I will first work on getting to know you and building a positive therapeutic relationship. Then we will establish ways to manage and cope with the emotions prior to working through the trauma. This is important to your success in the therapy process. The primary piece to therapy is feeling safe before moving forward. We will work together at your pace.
I use a psychodynamic approach during the therapy process. This means you learn more about yourself and make sense out of your behaviors. I also use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to work through disruptive emotions, which helps manage triggers in a healthy manner. A trigger is a reminder of an emotional response, for example a scent, sound, or the way someone looks. Many times people don't understand their emotional response so they are unable to make the connection. This is due to how the brain tries to "forget" what has happened. Then we are left not being able to make sense out of our world. I also use Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Mindfulness.
I will help you discover a sense of calm to help work through the pain, better manage emotions, and work towards inner peace.
I provide in-person and online video therapy to adults. We can meet at my office in Lake Geneva, WI or I can meet you at your home. There is also an option for run-walk-talk therapy. You have the option to get outdoors and work through difficult emotions through movement. And when we are side by side, versus making direct eye contact, it can feel safer and more comfortable to open up and work through shameful thoughts you've been experiencing.
When you're ready, I'm here to help you begin the process to your healing journey.
Movement and being outdoors increases creativity and opens the mind, making it easier to open up and work through negative thoughts and feelings. When we are side-by-side rather than making direct eye contact, it reduces individuals' self-judgment.
Takes the same approach as in-home with the exception of doing face-to-face online therapy. This is done anywhere in Wisconsin via video. If you live in a rural area or have a tight schedule, online therapy provides accessibility and convenience.
